We strive for a genuinely democratic IDP, in the strong sense of the word, where we would go beyond psychoanalytic school conventions and their historical derailments. Thus, we search for what a psychoanalyst authentically is, beyond a too frequently purported one. We aim to rise above what W. R. Bion called the psychoanalytic Establishment and its “ruling caste.” Of central concern is an exploration of psychoanalytic formation, which need not follow its time-worn “tripartite” model. In these efforts, we attempt to be “capable of community,” as Freud put it. Or as Cornelius Castoriadis conceptualized, to be autonomous individuals forming an autonomous community, which in turn makes a space for the development of its individuals.
The Community Meeting is a by-invitation group for candidates, faculty, and affiliate members. We welcome interested persons to contact Lynne or Joseph Scalia at josephscalia@dempsya.org or director.dempsya@gmail.com
Community meetings by Zoom will be held generally on the 2nd Friday of each month from 3:00 – 4:30 PM Mountain Time. In November, we have some members giving a presentation elsewhere on the second Tuesday, so will meet on November 21.
